Journaling
Book reviews by Kathy
Edstrom
Adams,
Kathleen. Journal to the Self, Twenty-Two Paths to Personal
Growth. New York, NY: Warner Books, Inc.
(1990)
I had not
done a lot of journaling prior to reading this book. I didn’t
realize there were so many different ways to journal. What I liked
most about this book was the way Adams presented specific techniques
for journaling and how to choose a technique that fits my individual
needs. She demonstrated these tools as a way to work through
problems and life-issues, and achieve results. Note: Contact the publisher directly about
obtaining a copy of this book.
Baldwin, Christina. Life’s Companion,
Journal Writing as a Spiritual Quest. New York, NY: Bantam Books
(1990)
Life’s Companion is an excellent book to learn how to
journal. Baldwin included spiritual quotations, writing exercises,
and proposed questions and techniques to assist the reader in
developing a style that explores their inner most thoughts and
feelings. I enjoyed this book more than any other “journaling” book
because of the format. I used many of the techniques for my own
personal growth.
