Classes Offered at Paws-A-Tive Choice

Puppy through adult dog training classes are taught in a 7,000 square foot learning center on  TenderfootTM rubber matting for the comfort and safety of you and your dog. The rubber mats provide anti-fatigue qualities that reduce the amount of stress on a dog's joints, back and muscles.

Through reward-based training, you and your canine companion will learn the necessary skills for maintaining a harmonious relationship. The dog training classes at Paws-A-Tive Choice are for family pets and are not taught for competition. Class sizes are small for optimum learning and personal attention.

AGILITY classes are taught in a fun and informal format to teach the foundation skills for jumps, tunnels and other agility obstacles while giving you and your dog an opportunity to experience the excitement of this highly enjoyable sport.

Agility Fun 101: This class is an 8-week session that teaches the basic foundation skills of agility obstacles. It is intended for dogs and people that are completely new to this canine sport. Dogs must be at least 10 months old to join the class and be able to respond reliably to basic obedience cues (sit, down, come, etc.). Each class is 60-minutes long. Class limit - 5 dogs

Agility Fun 201: An 8-week class that builds on the foundation skills that were taught in Agility Fun 101. Students learn to start chaining obstacles together and hone their verbal cues as well as hand signals. Dogs must be at least 12 months old and be able to respond reliably to basic obedience cues (sit, down, come, etc.) The dogs must also be familiar with all pieces of agility equipment. Each class is 60-minutes long. Class limit - 5 dogs   Prerequisite:  Agility Fun 101 or by approval of Paws-A-Tive Choice

ADULT DOG classes are for dogs ages 10 months and older that haven't learned the basic pet-obedience behaviors or perhaps need a refresher on doggy etiquette. We will be introducing a variety of skills for you and your canine companions that will assist your pooch with living harmoniously within your family and the community.

K-9 Good Neighbor Program: An 8-week program for dogs 10 months and older. This program will teach you, the Guide to ensure your canine pal can be a respected member of the community. This program embraces dogs of all breeds and ages. No dog (or human) is ever too old to learn something new, or have a few reminders put in place.

This program encourages people to have fun with their dogs and to help form a positive bond with their canine companion. Training stimulates dogs’ intelligence and in an emergency, the training your dog receives could save his life. Class limit - 5 dogs

PUPPY classes will assist you and your pup with learning the essentials of developing good doggy manners through the use of games and rewards. Through these classes you will build a loving relationship with your dog by starting him out on the right paw so he is set up to succeed from the very beginning.

Puppy Love - Beginner Puppy Class: An 8-week class for puppies ages 10 weeks to 20 weeks old. You and your pup will learn Chris Bach's THE THIRD WAY of Dog Training Foundation Games, along with potty training, leash manners, tricks, basic obedience skills, general puppy care, proper greeting habits along with a few other goodies to help you and your pup develop a solid foundation of good behaviors. The first class is a 90 - minute orientation that is held without puppies. The remaining 7 sessions will be 60-minutes long with puppies, of course. J Class limit - 5 puppies

Puppy Love Too - Advanced Puppy Class: This 8-week session is for puppies 20 weeks old to 10 months old. These pups are now in their adolescent stage. The environment is very enticing to them. We will be building on the skills that were learned in Puppy Love-Beginner Puppy Class. We will continue playing THE THIRD WAY of Dog Training Foundation Games, adding duration, distractions and distance. Your pup will have the opportunity to socialize with other dogs and people while learning the skills that are necessary to be a well-behaved pooch in the real world. We'll build on leash manners, long distance recalls, teaching your pup to relax with a variety of distractions; the "back-up" game as well as experiencing some real-life exercises. (Weather permitting, we may go to a few outdoor locations to proof the skills you have learned.) Each class is 60-minutes long. Class limit - 5 puppies     Prerequisite: Puppy Love - Beginner Puppy Class or by approval of Paws-A-Tive Choice

Additional Services Offered at

Paws-A-Tive Choice

Thank you for your interest in our services. We are devoted to helping pets and their people with emotional and behavioral issues.

Both Healing Touch for Animals and flower essences can be used in conjunction with conventional methods of therapy and positive training techniques. Neither Healing Touch nor flower essences are meant as a substitute for veterinary care or proper behavior modification training. When in doubt, always consult with a veterinarian.

The services we offer are considered "cooperative care", meaning they work with the advice and treatment of your veterinarian. Only a veterinarian can diagnose and treat physical illnesses, but a person trained and certified in a specialized field of health care can be a wonderful addition to the on-going veterinary care and training your animal companion is receiving.

I, (Kathy Edstrom) believe the only way one can begin to understand the emotional state their animal companion is in, is by reviewing and discussing all aspects of that animal's life. This is why I will not dispense advice over the phone, or by e-mail without doing a thorough consultation first. The problem mentioned may not be the problem at all, but could be stemming from a deeper issue. I do not work on "surface issues". My goal is to get to the root of the problem so the issue may get resolved, not just covered up.

The most frequently asked question about flower essences is, "How soon will I see results in my pet?" The answer is, "Every animal experiences varying results." Some pets have shown dramatic improvements within one week of them receiving the flower essences, and others need to be receiving flower essences for several months. It truly depends on how deeply rooted that behavioral issue is. For a complete explanation, go to Flower Essences.

Healing Touch for Animals works very much like flower essences. Depending on the emotional and mental state the animal is in, will determine how rapidly the pet responds to the energy work.

Take some time to explore all of the wonderful holistic modalities that are available for you and your pet. You will be amazed at what you will find, and the powerful results you and your pet can obtain when you work together as a team. If you think positive, you will achieve great things!

I wish you and your pet great health on all levels; emotional, mental, physical and spiritual. - Kathy at Paws-A-Tive Choice
