Nearing the End of 2016

Hi, Friends -

2016 has gone by so quickly! I don't get the time I would like, to keep up with My Blog. Sorry about that. I tend to post most things on the Paws-A-Tive Choice, LLC Facebook page.

I have posted the schedule for the last session of classes for this year. The EARLY Winter Session of Classes begins the weekend of December 3, 2016. For full details, see the Class Schedule.

We have had a very busy year here at Paws-A-Tive Choice, LLC with some exciting additions. In February, Jean Jahnke, CPDT-KA joined us to bring her expertise and passion for working with reactive and shy dogs. Jean is now teaching two specialty classes devoted to working specifically with reactive and shy dogs. These two programs will be offered throughout the upcoming year.

Cathy Los joined us in April to bring her love and expertise in teaching and competing in Rally Obedience. Cathy teaches Beginner through Excellent Rally O classes and will continue to teach them throughout the upcoming year.

I had the pleasure of judging a K9 Nose Work Odor Recognition Test in March at the Sheboygan Dog Training Club. I had a blast doing that and hope to be asked again to judge in the future.

We held a very successful fundraiser for the Racine Area Sheriff Office K-9 Unit in June. We had a terrific turn-out for the event. It was a K9 Nose Work Sniff-FUN-Go that was open to all three levels of dogs and handlers competing at the NW1, NW2 and NW3 levels. Through event registrations, tshirt sales and raffle tickets, we raised almost $4000 for the RASO K-9 Unit. All four of the K-9 handlers on the unit were judges that day and what a great day it was!

During the year, I have volunteered at K9 Nose Work trials as well as attended continuing education classes. Volunteering at trials is quite the education in itself. I highly encourage people to do so. I will be volunteering at more trials and attending more continuing education classes in 2017. I also hope to get into a K9 Nose Work NW3 trial with my German shepherd, Turbo.

I would like to extend some very special THANK YOU's to people and businesses who have allowed me to bring my students to their places for K9 Nose Work training: Dr. Ted Randelzhofer and Diana Randelzhofer of Animal Hospital of Union Grove in Union Grove, WI; Kevin Dahl of KD Tire in Muskego, WI; Dr. Charles Schneider and Hayley Schneider of Schneider Family Dentistry in Burlington, WI; Nadine Love-Filer of Anderson Ashton in New Berlin, WI; Lisa Triantafelo of Iron Horse Ranch in Waterford, WI; Jeff Koenen with Reineman's True Value in Burlington, WI and Nancy Smith, teacher at Waterford High School in Waterford, WI.

These people have been so generous with allowing me to bring our K9 Nose Work dogs to their locations for training. It is a real challenge finding places that will allow us to train our dogs on site, so when we are blessed with such generous people, they deserve to be acknowledged.

I would also like to extend a very hearty THANK YOU to my very loyal volunteers who help out with my K9 Good Neighbor Program: Frank and Kathy Erickson; Ralph and Linda Sander and Nikki Zass. These folks come every session for the last 3 weeks of the K9 Good Neighbor Program to assist with a variety of exercises with the students in class. Their participation is an important part in helping the dogs in class learn how to behave with strangers.

My other two right hand gals, Daun Boll and Hayley Schneider - They are always willling to lend a helping hand, whatever it may be.

Next May 2017, Paws-A-Tive Choice, LLC will be celebrating our 10 years of helping families and canine companions live in harmony. That is so hard to believe that I opened my learning center in May 2007. It truly does not feel like we are coming up on 10 years. Here's hoping 2017 will be a terrific year for Paws-A-Tive Choice, LLC and all people and their pawsome canines who come to my center for training and fun.

Thanks to all of my fabulous students who continue to support Paws-A-Tive Choice, LLC with our different ventures, classes and special events. I am so very blessed to have all of you in my life.

Here's to ending 2016 on a happy note and may 2017 be a healthy and happy year for you and your pooches.

Until next time ... stay pawsative and remember to always train happy!
